Nexar is designed to efficiently backup your drives. Here’s how.
The Nexar app
While you drive, your rides are streamed to the Nexar app and saved on your phone’s memory. To do this, your phone needs to be connected to the dash cam via WiFi connection. You can stream videos to the app automatically or by tapping the Stream button on the home screen in the app.By default, Nexar uses up to 50% of your phone’s available storage to store driving footage (you can modify this on the app’s settings by following the instructions here). Once the designated storage space on the app gets full, newer drives replace older ones.
The Nexar Cloud
While you drive, Nexar detects irregular road events, such as collision or hard brakes. These events are automatically trimmed from the full drive video and backed up to an online server called the Nexar Cloud.
For Nexar Pro, Beam, NEXC1, NEXC2, and NEXS1 dash cams, full drives are uploaded to the cloud via WiFi and are saved in timelapse format. Clips are saved in full HD quality.
For Nexar One dash cams, only Clips are backed up.
Automatic and Manual Clips are uploaded via the +Connectivity add-on, or through an internet WiFi connection or cellular data for non-Nexar Ones and Nexar One dash cams without a +Connectivity add-on.
Videos that are saved in the Nexar Cloud are saved there permanently, unless you delete them from the Nexar app. Deleted recordings are gone forever, so be careful when deleting videos from the app.To learn more about the Nexar Cloud, click here.
Your rides are automatically saved on the camera's internal memory as soon as the dash cam receives power or when it detects an impact or movement during parking mode.
Some dash cams have a detachable SD card while others have built-in storage (such as the NEXC2 and Nexar One). Once the internal memory is full, old drive recordings are overwritten with newer ones.
Parking incidents in the internal memory
Parking incidents in Nexar One dash cams can only be accessed through the Nexar app. When an incident is detected and recorded, the Owner of the dash cam will be notified, and they will be able to watch the parking incident from the Nexar app.
There is currently no option to get videos directly from Nexar One’s built-in internal memory.
Nexar Pro and Beam
These dash cams store parking incidents inside the drive folder in the SD card and are also subject to the loop recording mechanism. They can be differentiated using their filename, as drive recordings end with “1” (road) and “2” (internal) or “A” (road) and “B” (internal) while parking clip file names end in “U”.
This dash cam has an internal memory directly accessible via the Nexar Memory Card Reader and are overwritten with newer drives when the memory is full. Drive recordings end with “1” (road) and “2” (internal) or “A” (road) and “B” (internal) while parking clip file names end in “U” or “X”.
NEXC1 and NEXS1
Parking incidents in these dash cams are separate from drive recordings. They can be found under the sos folder in the SD card. This folder has a separate overwriting mechanism which will delete old parking clips to save new ones when the folder is full.
